STARTING TO DRIVE

Before you can start your driving lessons you need to have a provisional driving licence. You can get one of these by obtaining an application form by either phoning the DVLA on 0870 240 0009 or from your local Post Office.
You can start your lessons as soon as you have obtained your provisional licence providing you are 17 years old (the licence becomes valid on your 17th birthday).
To be able to drive you must be medically fit and be able to read a motor vehicle number plate, in good daylight, with the aid of glasses or contact lenses if necessary.from a distance of 20.5 metres.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

It normally takes most people somewhere between 20 and 40 hours to learn to drive. It depends on your motivation and aptitude for driving, how much previous experience you may have had, and whether you can get any supplementary practice with friends or family between lessons.Remember this is only a guide to how long it takes - everybody is different and learn at different speeds- so there are no guarentee's to when you will be ready for your test!

The best way to learn to drive is to take regular lessons over a few weeks, preferably at least 2 lessons a week, of a duration of one and a half or two hours. Although the "one lesson a week" approach spreads the cost, it usually means you end up paying more in the long run, because it is easy to forget what you have learnt in the previous lesson if you leave too long a gap in between, and as a consequence you end up having many more lessons.

The system of learning I adopt helps to overcome the problem of "forgetting " between lessons ,because I provide a comprehensive set of resource materials, which includes lesson plans and Driving Standard Agency (DSA) approved books which if used as advised, will help you remember what you covered in the last lesson, as well as prepare you for the next.It may also be useful when you do any supplementary practice,as they may be used to help guide a friend or relative,so the practice you have is to the standard required .
