THE THEORY TEST
The modern day driving test is in two parts- the theory test, which must be taken and passed, before you can attempt the second part - the practical driving test.
The theory test is split into two parts - the Multiple choice quiz and the Hazard Perception test.It is conducted by using computer generated images, at a test centre.If you have no knowledge of how to use a computer do not worry as plenty of time is given to get used to the system in the form of a video tutorial and practice questions, and the test centre staff will be happy to assist if required.
The Multiple choice quiz consists of 50 questions.After each question you are given a list of potential answers, you must select the correct answer (or answers),by touching the appropiate area of the computer screen.You will be given 57 minutes to complete the test and you will be required to answer 43 out of the 50 questions correctly to pass this part of the test.
The Hazard Perception Test consists of 14 video clips of about 1 minute each,and they give the impression that you are driving the car - the point of the test is for you to identify any developing situation that may cause -you -as the driver of the car, to slow down or change your position.One of the clips will contain two hazards, so you will need to identify 15 different hazards.You are scored on how quickly you identify each hazard -by clicking the mouse on the computer -which registers your score in a fixed time frame - the earlier you identify the hazard the higher you score. As with the multiple choice test you will be given plenty of time to practice ,before you start the test.
To pass the Hazard Perception Test you will need to score at least 44 out of a possible 75.
If you do not reach the required standard in either part of the test, you will fail, and have to re-take both parts again- so it is essential that you are thoroughly prepared before you book your test.You can practice your theory test by visiting www.theory-tests.co.uk
